Melville, el samurai

Un tipo frío como el acero. Silencioso. Guapo. Asesino a sueldo.
Se mete en líos, y lucha por salvar el pellejo con una parsimonia que casi pone de los nervios al espectador.

Se trata del protagonista de El silencio de un hombre (título original, Le Samouraï), dirigida por el maestro Jean-Pierre Melville, que ya me dejó alucinado hace años con la maravillosa Círculo rojo.

Por lo que sé, durante los sesenta y setenta el cine negro no sólo resucitó tímidamente en EE UU, en Europa pegaba fuerte de verdad. Y surgió lo que podría considerarse todo un subgénero, el polar: cine policiaco francés (en Italia irían más allá y crearían el giallo, un tipo de thriller más bestia, tirando al terror). Mi humilde opinión es que Melville es el maestro absoluto del polar. Y me gusta tanto por su estética fría, distante, pausada y con carácter.

Además de su ritmo y su filosofía, lo sobresaliente de este samurai es su intérprete: Alain Delon. Sólo es necesario verle en Plein soleil (la adaptación de René Clement de El talento de Mr. Ripley, ya hablé del personaje) para rendirse ante su mirada acerada, su quieta expresividad, sus gestos calculados, su voz. Aunque casi no tengas ni idea de cine, seguro que te suena su nombre.

En definitiva: si quieres hacer buen cine negro, visita obligada al universo Melville. Cómo matar con estilo, convicción y silencio.

Por cierto, Delon sacó una fragancia inspirada en el éxito de la película y de su personaje.
