Estoy en la FNAC con mi socio Carlos, enredando en la zona de los emepetrés, cómo no. En un monitor tienen puesta una peli de estética futurista, con Christian Bale, en la que queman la Gioconda. Nos quedamos en plan “¿qué peli es ésta?”.
Un grupito de unos cinco currantes de la FNAC, con sus churrichalecos, bromea en un corrillo. Me acerco y les digo: “Ey, perdonad… ¿qué peli es esa?”.
Todos al unísono: “Equilibrium“. Se sonríen al ver mi cara de “no me suena de ná”. Uno de ellos toma el liderazgo y me dice que es de cuando Matrix, y que “por eso” no la estrenaron en los cines. También me dice que no hay forma de encontrarla, sólo por internet. Lo dice como invocando a su tótem, o como si recitara de memoria el libro prohibido de El nombre de la rosa. Hum, digo para mí.
Unas horas después, Carlos se la baja y me la pasa. Acabo de verla. Bien… es interesante, pero tampoco como para que un grupo de fnaqueros parezcan emocionarse al hablar de ella. Procedo a hacer uno de mis pseudoanálisis:
Para empezar, es del año 2002, así que, en todo caso, sería de un año antes de Matrix Reloaded y Matrix Revolutions, no de “cuando Matrix”. Joer, si curras en la FNAC, hay que cuidar más el rollo freak de saberse bien la añada de las pelis…
Dejémonos de misterios. La peli no está mal, pero poco más. En un mundo post-3ª Guerra Mundial, una sociedad rollo nazi impone una paz de palo basándose en la falta de sentimientos: la gente se inyecta una droga que les hace ser fríos e insensibles, para así alejar las pasiones y no caer en la escala de violencia que suele ser el deporte favorito de los humanos. Todo aquel que se emocione, es sentenciado de muerte.
Bien, pues una especie de cuerpo policial de la época son los Clérigos, y el gran Christian Bale es su mejor agente. Toda la trama comenzará cuando Bale se da cuenta de que está atrapado, y decide saltarse las reglas y comenzar a sentir. Ya de paso, se enfrenta al sistema y comienza a repartir hondonadas de hostias allá por donde va.
¿Acción? Bastante. La influencia de Matrix es obvia, no tanto por el efecto bala y otras maravillas como por el frenético montaje, la estética estirada y el festín de munición. La mejor secuencia es el tiroteo inicial, los siguientes están bien pero no son más que repeticiones del primero, sorprendente por suceder en la más absoluta oscuridad. Después, lo único que salva a la película es su protagonista, un actor de aspecto perfecto -una vez más- y cuya expresividad va del cero al cien en un parpadeo.
Aunque All Movie Guide la califica de peli de culto, a mí me parece un refrito de lo típico: Fahrenheit…, Mil novecientos ochenta y…, mundos perfectos… Es decir, pica un poco de todo el futurismo pesimista y lo sazona con acción de inspiración oriental (y no sólo porque también se den mandanga con una katana). Poquito más.
