“¿Quién dijo que la Fórmula 1 era aburrida?”

Si has visto alguna carrera de Fórmula 1 en los últimos tres o cuatro años, sin duda esta frase te sonará de algo. Lobato no desperdicia ningún momento interesante de cualquier gran premio para soltarla. Quizás temeroso de que un espectador exigente cambie de canal.
Soy un advenedizo de la Fórmula 1, lo reconozco. A lo largo de 2004 vi alguna carrera suelta, cuando ese chico llamado Fernando Alonso empezaba a confirmar las esperanzas posadas en él. Durante 2005 seguí con regularidad la temporada, y en 2006 creo que apenas me perdería un par de carreras, las de horario más intempestivo (ver la carrera repetida a destiempo sabiendo que ya hay un ganador puede conmigo). Maldije cuando un par de tuercas se salieron del Renault, vitoreé cuando el motor traicionó al Ferrari.
Sin embargo, no sé muy bien por qué, este año he pasado olímpicamente de la Fórmula 1. Y creo que he descubierto la razón a lo largo de estas últimas semanas: el puro aburrimiento. Si ya no quiero perder el tiempo viendo cualquier programa y selecciono muy bien lo que ocupa mi ocio (qué libros, qué pelis, qué series, qué cómics), algo en mi cerebro ha debido concluir: “no nos podemos permitir la Fórmula 1″.
Afrontémoslo. La Fórmula 1 solo es divertida, muy al contrario que la gran mayoría de los deportes, cuando las cosas salen mal: las carreras son emocionantes cuando hay hostias, descontrol, lluvia, cuando el safety car desbarata los tiempos y las tácticas iniciales no sirven, cuando alguien pierde los nervios y se come una chicane (veáse el propio Alonso en Canadá)… creéme, si la carrera buena es aquella en la que Alonso marca pole y no pierde el puesto durante 70 vueltas, algo no funciona en esto. Los apasionados de la ingeniería se lo pasarán pipa, pero el resto… en cuanto se acaba la emoción se seguir al héroe (el españolito de pie que consigue una proeza, como antes fueron Ángel Nieto, Manolo Santana o Miguel Indurain), la pasión por el “circo” se evapora.
Muchos se mofaron de Montoya cuando el año pasado se pasó a la NASCAR. Qué quieres que te diga: correr en óvalo es repetitivo, sí, pero también hipnótico. Y la emoción durante la carrera es mucho mayor: dos coches en cabeza pueden estar rozándose durante vueltas enteras, y un error puede dar la victoria a cualquier coche de la masa que les sigue. Eso es lo que mola de las carreras NASCAR: que todos suelen ir en manada, saltan chispas al friccionar las carrocerías y hay grandes posibilidades de que la emoción se mantenga hasta el final.
